3 things we learned from celtics-bucks game 3 on saturday

the boston celtics and milwaukee bucks battled it out for 48 minutes of game 3 on saturday, but it was the bucks who came away with a 103-101 victory in a game that ended in controversy.

With the Celtics trailing late in the game, Marcus Smart attempted a game-tying 3-pointer with 4.6 seconds remaining and was fouled.

However, the referees ruled that it was a non-shooting foul on Milwaukee, resulting in two free throws instead of three per smart.

after converting the first free throw, intelligent intentionally missed the second perfectly and after missing a header, al horford grabbed the offensive rebound for boston and deflected the ball to tie the game and force overtime…or so they did. thought.

Referees immediately went to review this possible game-tying horford bunt and determined the ball was still at the veteran’s fingertips when the clock expired, meaning the game was over and the dollars they held on to win by two points.

Now leading this series 2-1, the Bucks will host the Celtics for one more game on Monday, a game that could very well determine this series.

Milwaukee potentially going up 3-1 would really put Boston’s back against the wall and could be too big a deficit for them to come back against the defending champions.

game 3 turned out to be a great home win for the milwaukee bucks and here’s what we learned from this game.

grant williams is a threat defensively

Defense has been the identity of the Boston Celtics all season, and throughout the year, Grant Williams has really developed into a valuable defensive player.

Taking on the task of guarding giannis antetokounmpo, something that is impossible for anyone in this league, williams defended most of the game and picked up a couple of fouls against the two-time mvp.

According to NBA Advanced Stats, Grant Williams limits opponents to just 0.38 points per isolation possession in the postseason, ranking him as one of the best isolation defenders in the league.

Overall, Williams has really stepped up for the Celtics this season and especially in the playoffs. his versatility and ability to keep the ball in front of him is why boston relies on him to guard giannis in this series and while the bucks mvp has been dominant, williams has done a very good job thus far the moment.

A true 3-and-d player on the wing, Williams is really starting to become a key player in the Celtics’ rotation.

jrue holiday is currently blocked due to the absence of khris middleton

Not having khris middleton has really limited the bucks offense and while giannis antetokounmpo has continued to be a problem for teams to defend, so has jrue holiday of late.

Over his last five games, holiday has scored at least 25 points on three separate occasions and is averaging 21.0 points per game while shooting 38.1% from the floor.

holiday has done a great job of not only making perimeter shots against the celtics, but he’s really taken advantage of the way they defend him.

Going under screens and not always staying glued to him, jrue holiday has been able to drive to the basket on multiple occasions and seemed to get to his spots with ease in game 3.

finishing with 25 points on 11-30 from the floor, holiday was very confident with the ball in his hands and although he struggled with his shot at times, he continued to play to his strengths.

By attacking the paint and being able to knock down a handful of mid-range shots, Jrue Holiday has really put pressure on the Boston Celtics in this series.

with middleton still out and probably out for the rest of this series, holiday will have to remain an elite offensive weapon alongside giannis antetokounmpo.

boston has no way to stop giannis antetokounmpo

no matter what you do to try to defend him, giannis antetokounmpo will find a way to score.

while he has started off slow at times in the first half, giving the boston celtics a slight lead, giannis has been dominant in the second half of games in this series, leading the bucks to have a great offensive advantage in the second half.

his aggressiveness in this series against boston has been too much for the celtics at times and in game 3, giannis once again showed everyone why he is the best player in the world.

The two-time MVP finished with 42 points (16-30 fg), 12 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks in Game 3 on Saturday and the most impressive thing for Antetokounmpo was the fact that he went 9- 12 from the free throw line.

milwaukee has really taken advantage of the third quarters of this series, outscoring boston by 17 points in the third quarter of game 3 and giannis antetokounmpo was a key weapon.

He scored 11 of the bucks 34 points in the third quarter and in the second half, giannis scored a total of 22 points. Throughout the game, Antetokounmpo looked to attack the little Celtics and found much success getting to the rim.

grant williams hasn’t done a bad job with giannis, nor has veteran al horford, but the celtics don’t have anyone who can hold off the bucks all-star, so he will continue to dominate in this series.
