nottingham forest head coach steve cooper is reportedly on brighton and hove albion’s list of possible candidates as they look for a new manager.
after graham potter left for chelsea, to replace the fired thomas tuchel, there is a vacancy in the amex stadium. Cooper, Bodo/Glimt chief Kjetil Knutsen, Nathan Jones of Luton Town and Russell Martin, chief of Swansea City, are said to be on the Seagulls’ list of possible options.
however, the athletic claim cooper “would be expensive to get”. It arrives when the Welshman is approaching his first anniversary in the city field, a date that also has some importance when it comes to his contract.

Cooper was named head coach of the Reds on September 21, 2021, following the firing of Chris Hughton. he signed a two-year deal at the time, which means he’ll soon have just 12 months left to run it.
Following Forest’s promotion to the major league, owner Evangelos Marinakis has stated his desire to bind the 42-year-old to a new contract. talks took place in early summer, on the basis of new terms that are believed to have been widely agreed upon.
While pen to paper has yet to be put to work, Cooper has been asked about the situation several times since joining his squad again in July. each time, he has emphasized that his focus is on the team, rather than his own personal circumstances.
When asked if there was an update on his situation, the Reds’ head coach said during a training camp in Spain: “I don’t know. It’s not something I think about too much, if I’m being honest.
“I think about the team, I think about the staff and being the best club we can be with every day. my real focus is new players coming in and developing from where we left off at wembley.”
Last month, before the opening weekend trip to newcastle united, he said: “to be honest i don’t really think about it, it’s not something that crosses my mind, i’m more interested in the team and try to deliver the right training sessions and I’m just not interested in personal stuff.
“Am I happy? Yes, doubly happy. Every day it’s an honor and a privilege to be here. It’s not something I spend too much time thinking about.”
Towards the end of August, he reiterated his stance saying, “If you know me, it’s not something that’s on my mind. I am more interested in the common good of the club, trying to prepare the team for the next game and trying to prepare the team for the season. that will always be at the forefront of my mind.”
After the top-flight club’s 23-year exile ended at Wembley, Marinakis vowed to fully support the man who had masterminded that success. Asked if Cooper’s deal would be extended, the Greek said at the time: “Yes, Steve will be with us. He has another year left on his contract but I want him to be happy.
“I want to give him the players that make him even happier to achieve great results and make all these fantastic fans happy.”
