When Fleury took over the Penguins’ top job a month into the 2005-06 season, Pittsburgh had begun to emerge as one of the best teams in the league. After leading the Penguins to the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2006-07, Fleury led them to the Stanley Cup Final the following season, recording an average of 1.97 goals against, three shutouts and a save percentage. .933 in 20 playoff games before Pittsburgh lost in six games to the Detroit Red Wings.
In 2008-09, Fleury helped the Penguins reach the Stanley Cup Final, helping them recover from a 3-2 deficit against the Red Wings by allowing a total of two goals in the last two games to help win the title.

fleury played 38 regular season games in 2016-17 and was poised to back up second-year goalie matt murray in the playoffs until murray was injured in warm-ups before the opening game on april 12. Fleury stepped in and helped the Penguins defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round and the Washington Capitals in the second round, including a Game 7 shutout, before being replaced by Murray in Game 3 of the conference finals. this one against the ottawa senators. At age 36 in 2020-21, Fleury won the vezina trophy as the nhl’s best goaltender for the first time. amazingly, it was the first time he had even been a finalist for the award. He went 26-10-0 in 36 games, and his 1.98 average and .928 save percentage were the best of his 17-season NHL career.
He also won his 490th game on May 5, recording 26 saves in a 3-2 overtime victory against the Minnesota Wild to pass Roberto Luongo for third place in NHL history.
However, on July 27, Fleury was traded to the Blackhawks for prospect Mikael Hakkarainen. was traded to the minnesota wild on March 21, 2022 for a second round pick in the 2022 nhl draft, was 9-2-0 with a 2.74 gaa and a .910 save percentage in 11 starts after the trade, and signed a two-year, $7 million contract to stay with Nature on July 7.
