It was an eventful second week of spring practice for the Miami Hurricanes football program. miami’s new coaching staff is in place and it can be argued that the coaching staff is one of the best in the country. including head coach mario cristobal, defensive coordinator kevin steele and linebackers coach/defensive co-coordinator charlie strong contribute about 20 years of head coaching experience alone.
this week cristobal invited many with experience as a head coach to the campus of the university of miami.
training clinic attracts an impressive list of guest speakers
cristobal and his staff hosted a coaches clinic where high school football coaches came together to share ideas and ultimately introduce miami coaches as a whole to the world. coaches watched saturday practice at the greentree practice field.
The clinic included Hall of Famer and former Miami head coach jimmy johnson, who led the Hurricanes to their second national championship in school history in 1987.
Other guest speakers also included former lsu head coach ed orgeron, who coached miami’s defensive line from 1988 to 1992 and won two national titles. orgeron was most recently the head coach of the 2019 lsu national championship team, which is considered one of the greatest of all time. Other speakers in attendance included longtime special teams coach with the miami dolphins dan rizzi, and 2021 super bowl champion los angeles rams head coach sean mcvay.

“Our players got some words of wisdom from Sean McVay that really resonated,” Cristobal said at a post-practice news conference on Saturday. “We hope to learn a lot from him. we always learn a lot from coach johnson. coach orgeron did an amazing job. coach rizzi was awesome teaching special teams this morning. in general, he achieved a lot ”.
Coaches on campus were among the many headlines this week. Hall of Famers ed reed, the sticks’ chief of staff, and edgerrin james were also on campus speaking with current players and coaches.

“Having guys like Ed Reed and Jason on our staff, first of all, they’re five-star guys,” defensive line coach Joe Salave’a said.
pro football hall of famer jason taylor is also beginning to make his presence felt in coral gables. The defensive end is pressuring true second-year defensive tackle Leonard Taylor to be better than he was last year.

“It’s a long way from its final, refined version,” Leonard Taylor’s Salave’a said midweek. “He’s being pushed and he doesn’t care. we have to continue to embody that spirit, otherwise this process will slow down and we are not trying to do that. we came here to push and continue to fight and those guys should have the utmost respect and a big picture of why we’re doing it this way.”

what twins bring
Both helped Miami Killian complete an undefeated regular season in 2021. Robby is an all-around athlete who is deadly in the comeback game. once he’s got his head full of steam, there aren’t many who can catch this explosive athlete. Washington is a resourceful outfield runner and has the ability to stretch the defense. He is a potential home run threat at every opportunity and brings a similar skill set to current Miami wide receivers Brashard Smith and Xavier Restrepo.

bobby washington (featured image) is more of a physical presence (6-3, 210) imposing his will from the linebacker position. When he locks onto the ball carrier, Bobby detonates like a heat-seeking missile. The talented tackler can also defend in pass coverage and has the opportunity to play middle or outside linebacker. the talented defender has a chance to be a consistent starter for years to come.
