The 2022 Chili Bowl marks the 36th edition of a race that has been dominated by NASCAR National Series drivers in recent years.
kyle larson, the 2021 nascar cup series champion, will look for his third straight win in the chili bowl a-main in 2022; he won the main event in both 2020 and 2021.
If Larson were to win the Chili Bowl in 2022, he would accomplish the same thing Christopher Bell, another NASCAR Cup Series driver, did between 2017 and 2019 when he won three straight main events in Tulsa.

Most of the 2022 Chili Bowl National Championships will be broadcast live on Floracing, the new streaming home for all the Nascar Roots action. Floracing coverage captures all five qualifying nights beginning Monday, January 1. 10 to Friday, Jan. 15.
mavtv motorsports network will show the latest highlights from Saturday, beginning with the opening night ceremonies at 7 p.m. et / 6 p.m. ct (local).

Both larson and bell, winners of the last five main features at the chili bowl, are participating in the 2022 event. They are part of an unprecedented entry list.
from January. 3, the growing roster for the 2022 chili bowl had reached 380 drivers. the previous record for entries was 372, set before the 2017 chili bowl.
larson and bell are two of nine current or former nascar cup series drivers included on the 2022 chili bowl entry list (more on that later). Chase Elliott, the 2020 Cup Series champion, is among them.
The entry list also includes a handful of drivers from the Xfinity and Truck Series, the Arca Menards Series, the Whelen Modified Tour, the Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Series and every other corner of auto racing, including IndyCar. (conor daly).

Two drivers, Larson and Bell, have won the last five majors in the Chili Bowl, the main event of the week.

Legendary sprint car driver Sammy Swindell, a three-time World Outlaw Champion, holds the record with five major Chili Bowl wins (1989, 1992, 1996, 1998, 2009). he re-enters in 2022.
Swindell’s son Kevin ranks second in major chili bowl wins with four (all in a row from 2010-2014), though injuries sustained in a 2015 crash ended his racing career.

larson, bell and elliott are three of six active nascar cup series drivers who participated in the 2022 chili bowl. chase briscoe, alex bowman and ricky stenhouse jr. he will also compete at the quarter mile dirt track in tulsa.
A pair of former Cup Series drivers in Kasey Kahne and J.J. Yeley is also participating in the 2022 Chili Bowl, as is Ryan Newman, who wrapped up what could be his final season in the Cup Series in 2021.

Larson has two wins, five top-fives and seven top-10s in 10 outstanding chili bowl races. Among active Cup Series drivers, only Bell has more, with three wins in eight major races.
briscoe has only one participation in the championship; He finished 22nd in 2017. Stenhouse has a pair of top-10 finishes in seven A-main appearances at the Chili Bowl. both bowman and elliott will be looking to make it to the championship event for the first time in 2022.
yeley has three top-five finishes in eight outstanding chili bowl races. kahne has a top 10 in seven such starts. newman has one win at e-main (2020) but has never competed in the a-main feature.
where’s the chili bowl 2022?
The location of the chili bowl is part of what makes the annual event so special.
each january, a carefully constructed quarter-mile oval of earth adorns the floor of the sagenet center at the river spirit expo center in tulsa, oklahoma. the temporary indoor circuit is known as the tulsa expo raceway.
The same dirt used for the inaugural chili bowl in 1987 forms the track each year.
“the key ingredient in the chili bowl is the clay that once covered the adjacent fairgrounds,” the event website reads. “With no sun or wind to harm it, the inner garden (roughly a quarter-mile circle) is highly saturated for the boldest dirt track artists of our time to really shine.”

Located outside the Tulsa Exposition Center is the famous golden statue of the Driller, a massive figure that represents an oil worker.

heat races
- driver draw for heat racing starting position at 2 p.m. on the board every day
- the driver who gets the lowest number will start on the pole for heat 1, the second lowest number on the pole for heat 2, etc.
- number of heats decided by number of cars – 7-10 cars per heat race (8 laps)
- Heat Race advancement to features is based on Passage Points earned in the Heat Race and Qualifying Races. overtaking points are based on the starting position of the car when the yellow light goes out before the initial start of the heat or qualifying race.
- The 40 drivers who earn the most points to pass advance to four “a” qualifying races; drivers in overtaking points positions 41-68 will go to two main races c. the two main c races will have 16 cars of 12 laps.
- The top four cars in each c main race will advance to the end of the b main races, running 15 laps. (the first four from the first major c to the back of the first major b, the first four from the second major c to the back of the second major b)
- The lineup for each “a” qualifying race will include a six-car investment. the top 24 cars at the waypoints will make the investment. (driver with the most points will start on row 3 of the first qualifying race, driver #2 on row 3 of the second qualifying race, etc.)
- The four qualifying races will each have 10 cars with the top 16 in combined passing points from the heats and qualifying races advancing to the main.
- the remainder of the cars (24) from the “a” qualifying races will advance to two top 16 b-cars. the first four in each main line b will advance to main line a, doing 30 laps.
- there will be 24 pilots in each preliminary night a performance
- The top two drivers in the preliminary qualify for Saturday’s main.
- each of the races will have four cars and will be four laps.
- preliminary night winners will draw positions 1-5, finalists will draw positions 6-10
- The first race will go to the drivers who qualify from 7th to 10th, lined up in that order. the top 2 will advance.
- second race, in the first row will be the drivers who get the 5th & sixth, with both drivers moving on from the first race on row 2 (winner inside, second outside).
- the front row of the third race will be for the drivers who get the 3rd & fourth, with both drivers passing from the second race on row 2 (winner inside, second outside).
- the fourth row of the first race will be for the pilots who tie the first and the first. second, with both drivers moving on from the third race on row 2 (winner in, second out).
- the winner of the fourth race will take pole position in the function a on Saturday.
- there will be two main b, with 20 controllers in each main b.
- drivers who finish their preliminary feature a in position 3-8 will qualify for the main line b

The lineup of the top 10 cars in the feature will be determined through the Pizza Express Chili Bowl Race.
The five winners of a feature will draw 1-5, followed by the five drivers who finished second tying 6-10 to seed the pole dash.

(note: all race positions other than Saturday’s main race will be lined up in the original draw of winners prior to the pole dash. example: if Friday’s winner draws number 1, Wednesday’s winner draws 2 , Tuesday’s winner draws #3, Thursday’s winner draws #4 and Monday’s winner draws #5, all placings in all races will be based on Friday first , the second Wednesday, the third Tuesday, the fourth Thursday, and the fifth Monday.)
